WMC Mission

WMC’s self-described mission is to create "meaningful, well paying jobs [to provide] economic security and dignity to Wisconsin citizens. A strong economy provides the tax base necessary to support government's role in education, building infrastructure, protecting the environment, and caring for the needy."

Examining WMC’s legislative positions, one might ask exactly what WMC’s definition of “government’s role” actually is. When it comes to government overseeing a fair redistribution of shared tax dollars, protecting water, air and open spaces and particularly “caring for the needy,” the role of government, appears to be in WMC’s opinion corporate rights before individual liberties and profit before people.

Comparing WMC’s language with its legislative agenda, what emerges is the following:

WMC Claim: "We need to pursue basic changes in the way we structure and deliver education in this state to include measuring outcomes, improving accountability, rewarding excellence, and encouraging innovation."

WMC Watch Reality: Wisconsin invests in having the best schools, students and teachers in the nation, while WMC fights against efforts to provide schools with the resources needed to remain competitive.

WMC Claim: "The creation of meaningful, well-paying jobs provides economic security and dignity to Wisconsin citizens."

WMC Watch Reality: Worker productivity levels are at historic highs, yet WMC lobbies against ensuring workers have the pay and benefits their hard work has earned, as well as fighting against worker protections and rights, as well as for less accountability for corporations.

WMC Claim: "Health care costs are a significant factor in the competitiveness of Wisconsin business."

WMC Watch Reality: Drug and insurance companies reap record profits, and WMC opposes efforts to stop gouging by the health care industry and to provide health care for all of Wisconsin.

WMC Claim: "We need to encourage economic growth and development to expand the tax base, thereby reducing the burden on all taxpaying entities."

WMC Watch Reality: Families see their tax burdens and their property taxes rise, but WMC fights for corporate tax loopholes and giveaways to the state's wealthiest paid for by the middle class.

WMC Claim: "We must ensure that any new environmental laws or regulations are based on sound science, and are prioritized to ensure that scarce resources are directed at solving the most significant environmental problems facing the state."

WMC Watch Reality: The clean air, water and open spaces of Wisconsin are under threat, while WMC challenges common sense environmental protections.
